Hello Beautiful People. Thank you for being here!
My name is Dana and I am a Sound Therapist, Musician, and Founder of Dana Joyce Wellness. I am currently living in Chicago’s Western Suburbs with my husband Les and our dog Wyatt. You may know me from my Instagram (@danajoycewellness), or local events but if this is our first time meeting each other, welcome!
My journey as a musician started well before I ever discovered meditation when I began playing the flute at age 9. I walked into the music room at my grade school, and after trying a few instruments I decided that the flute just “felt right.” And that is the very same flute I bring to all of my sessions to this day!
My husband likes to tease me that I had to become an advanced yoga teacher just to figure out that I wanted to be a musician again. I like to say that I followed the yoga teacher to sound therapist pipeline. What it shakes out to is finding the right teacher to guide you in the right direction and in my case to tell me to get out of my own way.
She helped me see that I have an innate talent for the “softer side” of wellness, and come to the understanding that it is needed just as much as the sweaty side. We don’t all have to be Vinyasa flow teachers to help people, and thank goodness for that!
I was teaching Yin at a local studio when one of the owners co-founded a sound school. I went to my first sound bath and was mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the sounds. I thought to myself, this is it, this is what I need to do!
I had found my way home
Over time I found that integrating sound into my meditation practice allowed me to deepen that practice more than anything else. It just makes sense.
I like to say that sound bathing is like having the cheat codes to meditation. I have had people reach out to me after one session and tell me they are never going to forget it. Sound is transformative.
The more I learn about the science of sound and wellness the more I understand that the world needs this. The WHO (World Health Organization) tells us that we are struggling with dual epidemics of loneliness and stress.
When I look at the power of sound to create deep connections and understanding between strangers? When I see a group of women who have been through more trauma than anyone should relax and feel so safe in the sound that they fall asleep? I know we need this, and THAT is why I do what I do.
YOU are why I do what I do.
We need each other!
And the world needs humanity, understanding, and healing.
